Electricity and magnetism

Physics

After this lesson, you should be able to:

  • State Faraday’s law and relate it to the rate of change in magnetic flux through a coil
  • Describe what happens to the current in a solenoid, connected to a galvanometer, when a bar magnet is pushed into or pulled out of it
  • Use an appropriate right-hand-rule to determine the direction of the induced current in a solenoid when the north or south pole of a bar magnet is inserted or pulled out.
  • Determine the direction of the induced current in a coil in various scenarios
  • Calculate the induced emf and induced current in situations involving a changing magnetic field using Faraday’s law
